Princess Sportsgear & Traveller was established in 2011. Under the leadership of Tim and Florentine Ouborg, it has expanded into a successful international business that is known in dozens of countries. The company supplies a wide range of sports and luggage products and operates a unique business concept that focuses on affordable luxury, quality, reliability, and exceptional marketing and product innovation. All products, marketing activities and PR campaigns are developed in-house, and sometimes in partnership with associates.
Striking marketing campaigns and high-profile events are part of the innovative 'Experience Marketing' concept, which is an extension of the successful 'Business is entertainment' philosophy of Princess founder Aad Ouborg. Princess Sportsgear & Traveller organised spectacular events for the Hockey World Cup, Football World Cup, the Tour de France and the Olympic Games, to name a few examples. As a partner of the LottoNL-Jumbo cycling team, the brand distinguishes itself with unique consumer promotions such as 'Win a seat in the leader’s support vehicle' and 'Win a VIP seat at the finish of the Tour de France in Paris, including meet & greet'.
Princess Household Appliances
In 1994, Aad Ouborg founded Princess Household Appliances B.V. which developed into a globally recognised brand sold in over 75 countries. In 2009, Aad Ouborg sold off the household appliances division of Princess. However, he retained the rights to use of the name for other activities, for example, Princess Entertainment, Princess Hotel Collection, Princess Sportsgear and Princess Traveller.
The establishment of Princess Sportsgear came about in a playful way. During the 2004 Olympic Games, Princess was swimmer Inge de Bruijn’s primary sponsor, however, she was denied permission to display the Princess logo on her swimming cap, because the company was not considered an official sports brand. "In that case, I will establish a sports brand before the day is out," was Aad Ouborg’s immediate response. In 2011, the Princess Sportsgear name came under the control of his two oldest children, Tim and Florentine, who led further international expansion of the business.
The Princess Sportsgear collection consists of a wide range of hockey equipment and is characterised by sporty and trendy designs. The hockey sticks are available in various moulds, are brightly coloured, and embellished with stars or unique prints. The range also includes hockey shoes, indoor-hockey gear, bags and accessories, as well as a junior collection, aimed at younger hockey players.
Since its establishment, Princess Sportsgear has made its mark worldwide. Quality, distinctive marketing promotions and unique partnerships have been part of its success from the outset. Sponsorship of world-class national and international hockey players, for example. Not only was Teun de Nooijer the world’s best hockey player for many years, he is also the leading ambassador and figurehead of Princess Sportsgear, along with many other internationally renowned hockey players.
In 2013, Princess Sportsgear launched the BoostiQ onto the market: the next step in the evolution of the hockey stick. It is unique, patented technology, developed exclusively by the company in close collaboration with Teun de Nooijer and the FIH (International Hockey Federation). This innovative technology comprises a specially developed rubber insert on the striking face and the reverse of the stick that ensures better ball control during play, fewer vibrations on contact, and a controlled back hand swing with less stick damage. Many of Princess Sportsgear’s ambassador players, such as Rogier Hofman, Tim Jenniskens and Diede van Puffelen compete very successfully at international level with the BoostiQ.
The collection also includes collaboration with unique licences, including the popular Japanese brand 'Hello Kitty'. This line consists of cheerful and colourful hockey sticks, balls, shin guards and backpacks. A senior stick was designed especially for hockey-international Kitty van Male.
Princess Sportsgear currently retails in over twenty countries with great success. Products are available in the United States, Australia, Belgium, the UK, Hong Kong, China, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Spain and South Africa. In the coming years, many other countries will be added to the list.
